SIP
Toolkit: Building Block for SIP and IMS Client Solutions
Over the
years, IP has evolved and matured as a complete telecommunication technology for
voice, video, and data delivery. IP was started as an alternative to SS7-based
circuit switched networks for toll-by-pass. Now it has evolved to a point where,
new services and technologies such as IP Multimedia System (IMS), IPTV, VoIP,
Femtocell for 3G, wireless phones based on Wi-Fi and WiMAX, use IP as a backbone
technology and SIP as the signaling protocol.
Aricent SIP Toolkit (IPTK), which acts as an application enabler toolkit can be used as a building block for all kinds of customer premise equipment such as:
-
SIP-based phones (both hard-phones and soft-phones)
-
Dual mode handsets (support for both packet and circuit switched technology)
-
IMS clients (for mobiles and fixed networks)
-
ONT boxes for FTTx, with VoIP support
-
CPE media gateways, ATA, IAD, Home Gateways
-
Femtocell nodes - with SIP on 3G access side
-
Software client for IPTV set top boxes
Aricent IPTK
is reliable, architecture and platform independent, and is easily customizable
onto any customer-specified hardware platform. It handles the complexity of SIP
signaling, media and user management procedures, and provides simple application
level interfaces to the application developer. It supports well-defined
interface towards the media module for creating, modifying and deleting media
stream, and allocation/de-allocation of audio and video codecs. It provides an
OEM/ODM with almost ready to use software, requiring little development, which
helps in reducing time-to-market for feature-rich telephony applications. It
supports a ready set of voice supplementary services such as call hold, call
transfer, three-way call, call forwarding, and call waiting. It also supports
features such as multiple line support, voice mail, POTS/ISDN adaptation
ability, NAT traversal, T.38 FAX support ability and other services with high
quality software pieces for VoIP termination. IPTK is built over Aricent SIP
technology, which is active since 2000. Reference applications built using IPTK
have participated in all SIPIT and other industry events, which ensure "Assured
Interoperability".
Building VoIP Phone and IMS Client: You can use IPTK in pre-IMS-VoIP network as well as IMS/ TISPAN network. A thin application layer on IPTK can interface with keypad, screen and LEDs for digit collection and display of status, for hard phone and can take soft-key inputs from a user for soft-Phone. It supports configuration of user and network profile. You can build multiple applications such as VoIP/ IMS client, Presence, Instant Messaging, and PoC over single instance of IPTK. Compliance to IMS/ TISPAN is increasing with every product release and you can use the current release to build initial versions of IMS/ TISPAN clients.
Building Edge Gateways: IPTK could be a building block for multiple-port-enterprise or edge gateways. It supports multii-line feature where you can configure separate user and network profile for each line (one or multiple active calls per line). The application on IPTK needs to handle CAS (Common Channel Signaling) and ISDN Signaling on one side and interacts with IPTK on other side, which provides interworking functionality. You can use similar application for building ONT for FTTx, which requires VoIP support on the access side.
SIP Toolkit in Femtocell Gateway: You can use IPTK in a Femtocell gateway, which uses SIP technology to convert 3G interface messages from a UE towards the broadband network. It supports features such as registration, authentication, dynamic addition and deletion of users, basic calls, supplementary services, transport of 3G specific location information, and transport of handover related information to the core network.
